Joel Embiid: NBA Star and Former College Standout
Early Years and College Career
Joel Embiid was born in Cameroon on March 16, 1994. He started playing basketball in high school in the United States, where he quickly became a top prospect. In 2013, he joined the Kansas Jayhawks for his college career.
College Accolades
During his freshman season at Kansas, Embiid made an immediate impact. He set a freshman record with 72 blocked shots and earned Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year honors. In his sophomore season, he led the Jayhawks to the NCAA Tournament Elite Eight.
NBA Drafts and Philadelphia 76ers
In 2014, Embiid entered the NBA draft and was selected 3rd overall by the Philadelphia 76ers. However, a series of injuries prevented him from making his NBA debut until the 2016-17 season.
NBA Career Success
Despite his injury struggles, Embiid quickly emerged as one of the NBA's best centers. He was named an All-Star in his second season and has since been named an All-Star six times. In the 2022-23 season, he was named league MVP for the first time.
