Embiid to miss extended time after knee surgery
Sixers' star underwent procedure Tuesday
Recovery timeline still TBD
Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid underwent successful surgery on his injured left knee Tuesday, the team announced. The procedure was performed to address an injury to the lateral meniscus in his left knee.
The surgery was performed by Dr. Neal ElAttrache in Los Angeles, and Embiid is expected to miss an extended period of time, according to the team. A more specific recovery timeline will be provided at a later date.
Embiid has been dealing with knee pain for several weeks, and he missed the 76ers' last two games. He was initially diagnosed with a bone bruise, but further evaluation revealed the more serious meniscus injury.
The 76ers are currently 33-19 and in third place in the Eastern Conference. Embiid is averaging 29.9 points, 11.7 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game this season.
