The Banco Central de Colombia has announced that new 10,000 and 20,000 peso banknotes will begin circulating alongside the existing currency. These new bills incorporate advanced security features to combat counterfeiting and ensure the integrity of the Colombian peso.
The most prominent feature of the new banknotes is the "Mire Toque Levante Gire y Compruebe" (Look, Touch, Lift, Turn, and Check) system. This five-step process allows users to quickly authenticate the authenticity of the bills by checking for specific details, such as raised printing, watermarks, and security threads.
The Banco Central emphasizes the importance of these enhancements, stating that they will "strengthen the security of the Colombian peso and reduce counterfeiting." The new banknotes will initially circulate simultaneously with the existing currency, providing ample time for the public to familiarize themselves with the new features.
